Chandeleur Island Fishing
The clear waters of the Chandeleur Islands offer some of the best light tackle fishing in the country. From traditional targets like speckled trout and redfish to seasonal catches like pompano, Spanish mackerel, bluefish, jacks, cobia and the occasional tarpon, the fishing is simply superb.
The Pelican is a floating lodge that has been operating in Schooner Harbor since 1985 and our hosts have decades of experience fishing the Chandeleurs – they may look salty but they are as hospitable and knowledgeable as they come!

Join us on The Pelican
The lodge is comprised of three wood-frame floating structures moored together. The center barge houses a bunkhouse with four sets of bunk beds for eight guests, along with an enclosed head and shower. One outboard barge contains the galley where meals are prepared and served, plus a separate generator room. The other outboard barge houses the crew quarters along with a screened-in lounge area that offers a separate dining area. All three barges have 360° access with plenty of shade for relaxing with a cold drink and appetizer.
Moored in Schooner Harbor
Schooner Harbor, a protected area surrounded by productive flats with easy skiff access to North Chandeleur Island for a quick trip to the surf. Schooner Harbor is roughly halfway between the north and south ends of North Chandeleur Island, offering easy access to miles of protected grass flats. The rooftop observation deck is the best place to enjoy an incredible sunset.
We strive to provide all the comforts of home. Electric power is provided by a 13 KW diesel generator and the galley and bunkhouse are air-conditioned. There is pressurized hot and cold water in the galley and head, along with a macerator toilet. We will also have plenty of ice for your drinks along with plenty of drinking water.
Legendary Cooking
Our cooking is legendary among repeat clients. Breakfasts are tailored to your fishing plans – we can provide coffee and a quick meal if you want to be on the water early, or a full breakfast with eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, or breakfast tacos if you want to fill up before hitting the water. Lunches are usually sandwiches – either let us know the night before if you want a boat lunch packed or return to the Pelican for lunch and a nap before getting back on the water for the afternoon session. Typical dinners are steaks, shrimp and grits, or a down-home fish fry where we prepare your fresh catch. If you have special requests or dietary restrictions please let us know well in advance so we can plan and shop accordingly.
